Climate Gambit chess tournament is a unique and exciting series of events, unlike any other, that brings together youth, civil society, policy and decision makers, business to engage in a thrilling battle of strategy and wit, all while raising awareness for the urgent need for climate action. The competition will bring together the global public, via Online Edition to engage in a strategic game of chess, where the pieces symbolize the choices we make in creating a sustainable future.
At this tournament, participants will sharpen their minds and put their strategic skills to the test, as they compete against each other in fast-paced environment. As we navigate the board, we will reflect on the impact our moves have on the environment and the steps we can take to ensure a better tomorrow. This tournament is not just about winning or losing, but about using the power of chess to inspire critical thinking and spark conversations on the vital role of climate action.
Climate Gambit will be held in the spirit of the Resolution adopted by the General Assembly on 12 December 2019 and in line with the principles laid out in the decision, such as acknowledging the important opportunities offered by chess in the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Sustainable Development Goals, including, inter alia, in strengthening education, realizing gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls and fostering inclusion, tolerance, mutual understanding and respect. It will contribute to dissemination of the advantages of chess, including through educational and public awareness-raising activities as well promoting and elevating the role of the sports and intellectual endeavour in the global climate action.
