Mesopotamian Chronicles: Iraq
Finding Inspiration in Every Turn
Mount Incredible embarks on an extraordinary adventure, what we call the “Mesopotamian Chronicles”, tracing the pathways of human species and civilizations across the Fertile Crescent in Iraq. From the world famous Shanidar Cave, the Neanderthal burial site in Zagros Mountains in the North to the ruins of Sumerian city of Uruk in the South – we will explore and uncover new insights at the intersection of ecology and biodiversity, peoples and cultures, the historical context and the climatic and environmental changes that have shaped Mesopotamia over millennia.
Our Story
Iraq experiences profound impacts of climate change and environmental degradation, transformation of its ecosystems and landscapes, loss of biodiversity, endangered heritage sites and migration. The multiplicity of the challenges faced by the people of Iraq and the compound effects make adaptation and mitigation no easy tasks. Lack of understanding on the science behind climate change, environmental processes, planetary boundaries and the delicate balance of the Earth’s ecosystems hampers behavioural changes in the society and stalls meaningful and evidence-based policy development. Mesopotamian Chronicles will shed a new light at this intersection through an engaging and holistic science communication, appealing to the historical context, traditional knowledge and local culture, while offering a new vantage point for examining and showcasing modern day approaches, innovations and successes
This journey will nurture hope and inspire action, engaging local people and governments in discussions about sustainable and resilient futures.
